HelpOut! A Trans Relocation Effort
What is KOI?
KOI is a Washington-based mutual aid organization focused on providing material support to trans individuals fleeing increasingly legislatively hostile states.
Though the project was started by members of the queer gaming community Knock Out, all who wish to help are welcome!
As of April 2025, we have helped over 15 people come to Washington state, 6 of whom are currently being housed within our network.
We have raised over 40k in donations, all of which is being used to care for evacuees. (We still need help! Click here to contribute!)
How does KOI help?
KOI commits to providing 6 months of support to accepted evacuees. This support includes:
- Arranging and funding transportation for evacuees from their original state to Washington
- Temporary housing with volunteer hosts for evacuees once they arrive in Washington (evacuees may be hosted in multiple locations if they require the full 6 months of housing support)
- Assistance with necessities (e.g., grocery gift cards, pre-paid public transportation cards, etc.)
- Connecting evacuees to local resources: Apple Health (state Medicaid), WorkSource (unemployment assistance), and Seattle Housing Authority programs
We hope to expand into providing skills workshops and community building events in the future! (Are you interested in teaching skills? Join as a volunteer here!)
KOI is currently in the process of applying for 501(c)(3) status, which will help broaden the sources of funding we can secure to provide additional support to the newest members of our community.
